Being the fourth class to graduate from AIS, this class was able to form a close Bond, that still kept many of us closely in touch until today. This is despite the fact that some of us live abroad, where they continued their studies and nor work. It has been five years since the graduation, in which we all have grown up and began to lead our own lives. Most of us have already finished university, and began with their career lives, which includes a variety of fields of work. Some even continued on with their masters, and more. As for our private lives, our class has witnessed a great progress on this side as well. Already some of us got married like Dina Ayesh who married Hatem Hafez. Mohamed Demerdash who now lives in the States has one kid. Salah Hosny. Nessrine Nafie who married the diplomat Mohamed Abou El Kheir. Others did not go that far yet and are still engaged soon to be married like Laila Jayyusi who got engaged to Hatem El Leissi. HOPE FLOATS Part II
The Lawyer Is In The Firm Dr. J.L. ‘Pete’ Gibson, is probably AIS’s most “wanted man.” Filling the new post of Dean of Students, Dr. Gibson is a man with very little time to spare; yet I was able to steal this interview from him. Dr. Gibson, from Troy, Alabama, has been in the academic business for the past 25 years. He has undertaken administrative assignments in both Alabama and Florida in KG – grade 12 schools and colleges. Such assignments have varied from Guidance Counselor to Principal and up to Superintendent. He has even worked as a college professor back home. He coached many sports: American football, baseball, track-&-field, and AIS’s favorite, basketball. For the past 15 years, Dr. Gibson has filled many posts away from home. He has been in Abu Dhabi, Bombay, India, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, and Labrador. When asked about his personal goals and vision for his very demanding job, Dr. Gibson ensured me: “I am student oriented. That is the nature of my job.” I then went on and asked him about how he would deal with a student-teacher problem; he answered: “It is not a matter of whether the teacher or the student is right or wrong. What’s important to me is to solve the problem so that it would no longer stand in the way of the student.” Dr. Gibson’s position is one that we’ve been dreaming of for the past 3 years. We understand the pressures and demands of the job; but one thing is for sure … He is the man for the job.

HOPE FLOATS Part I
Dr. Thomas Dellario, as you can see, is one that looks upon life through his wide smile. But this time, the smile is much deeper than just a face; it’s an entire attitude of work and relating, both with the administration and staff, and especially with the students. Dr. Dellario, AIS’s new High School Principal obtained his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in Educational Administration from Western Michigan University. He was for many years the Director of Loynorrix High School in Katamazoo, Michigan, before deciding to pursue his career overseas. He was the Director of Escola Americana in Rio di Janeiro and the Director of the American School in Thailand before joining AIS in Egypt. When asked about his first impressions, Dr. Dellario answered: “I am impressed with the quality of the AIR enriched American curriculum. I am very pleased with the goals that Dr. Dorbis has set for the school and we will work together towards their implementation. AIS is a very well organized institution.” “I see myself as a very forward thinking educator,” Dr. Dellario described himself. (ESOL magazine). If anything is for sure, it is the undeniable fact that Dr. Dellario is the ray of light that finally came back to AIS to light its way back to its good old days.

Age & Smoking Beats AIS’s Young Panthers
In the very few times it was carried out till the end, the basketball games that took place between AIS’s Alumni and its Panthers were outstanding. Although almost every single Alumni is an old walking cigarette, they were still able to teach those youngsters a lesson or two about basketball. Other that the first game that took place on Dec. 12, 11998, which ended up 38-36 Panthers’ way, the Alumni annihilated the Panthers from then onwards. On Jan. 31, 1999, the Alumni crushed the Panthers 54-42 and again on Nov. 11, 1999, 66-59. It might be true that the scores were close, but if you want to know what I’m talking about, you have to come and watch for yourself … and if you even want to come and play, you’re more than welcomed. Come on, it’s in our new indoor court!!!! (You might just get some of those extra credits Green is giving out.)P.S.: Next game is on Sat. Dec. 11, 1999, probably in Heliopolis club. Try to come.
